Organic Products and Raw Food Diet
| October 16, 2011 | Filled under Articles |
Fortunately for those of us newly interested in eating organic and raw foods, there are lots of products out there. Natural and organic foods used to be found only in natural food stores, and those could be few and far between. While not as ubiquitous as McDonald’s, there ARE many more stand-alone stores.
And the grocery chains are catching on too, with more organic selections than ever before. If you don’t see them in your grocery store, just ask. You’re probably not the only person in your neighborhood who’d like to see more of these options.
Many grocery stores now feature sprouts and other living foods in the produce aisle. Of course, if they don’t, there’s nothing easier to grow for yourself than sprouts!
There are also tons of sites on the Web where you can order raw and living foods. Just do a search on raw foods and you’ll come up with a lot of different places to order the foods you’d like to buy. Many of these sites are also full of useful information, to help you learn about eating raw foods, and help educate you on the specific food values.
What else? Experiment with what you like. Take the time to learn a little about what the different nutrients in foods do for you. A few examples:
Cabbage – High in Vitamin C; important for healthy cell function.
Shitake mushrooms – contain essential fatty acids and antioxidants to support a healthy immune system.
Kale – Rich in fiber and helps reduce calorie intake with less hunger. We like that!
Barley – Loaded with niacin, fiber and iron and is important for healthy blood sugar.
Pumpkin – So rich in fiber and vitamins; helps reduce appetite by filling the stomach with indigestible fibers
Reducing your exposure to these toxins can improve your health. True, some people eliminate toxins well. Still, the body needs to expend energy to eliminate toxins when it could be doing other things such as healing damaged cells, fighting off viruses and bacteria, or patrolling the body for cancer cells. Even people who can tolerate or eliminate toxins could feel substantially better without putting these poisons into their bodies.
And if your system is sensitive to toxins, you’ll be much better off eliminating them from your diet as much as possible. Fortunately, it’s easier to do this because there’s a greater selection and variety of organic produce in our grocery stores.

Organic Green Tea and How You Benefit
| August 29, 2011 | Filled under Articles |
Organic green tea has a lot of benefits. what makes it different from other teas is that the leaves are picked and dried before they have a chance to ferment. This lower level of processing–compared to other tea–makes sure that green tea retains more of its beneficial properties. A lot of people prefer the aromatic and fresh flavor of organic green tea, or may drink it with its positive effects on the body in mind. In fact, green tea is a part of many diets and is made into supplements of various forms.
Organic green tea traces its history back to Asian cultures where it was used as both an herbal medicine and a beverage. One of the earliest documented uses of green tea was as a way to heal wounds and control bleeding. While there is no way to know for sure, there is strong evidence that people have been drinking tea for nearly 500,000 years. Its medical properties have been embraced by the Chinese for centuries prior modern researchers.
A powerful class of antioxidants known as polyphenols are found in abundance in green tea. Polyphenols have been shown to limit the formation of blood clots, attack cancer cells and lower the levels of bad cholesterol in the body. There is no doubt that organic green tea is beneficial to one’s health.
What makes green tea different than its black counterparts is the way in which it is processed. While both come from the same basic tea leaves, organic green is steamed so it retains most of its beneficial compounds. This is opposed to other tea where the leaves are fermented, which leads to the destruction of many of the compounds found in green tea.
While Western medicine doesn’t always embrace the health benefits of food and drink, here are some of the things green tea is believed to do:
Preventing cancer – This is because the polyphenols act as antioxidants, keeping cancer sells fro growing.
Lower blood pressure – Some studies have shown that drinking two cups of tea daily can lower blood pressure.
Immunity – Green tea may be able to decrease the chances of getting the flu.
Improved digestion – The tannins in tea cleanse the digestive tract and soothe the stomach.
Dental health – Green tea helps prevent cavities and kills bacteria that can cause bad breath.
Weight loss – Organic green tea also contains catechins, an antioxidant that works to reduce fat absorption. It can also boost the body’s metabolism.
Stronger bones – Vitamin D, important for maintaining bone density, is found in organic green tea.
However, it should be noted that green tea also contains caffeine. This means it can cause sleeplessness and make some people jittery, but it is still lower in caffeine than coffee.
With all of its health benefits, organic green tea is a wonderful beverage that can be enjoyed without guilt. And it’s fresh and aromatic flavor make it enjoyable, indeed.
